Panel discussion: Searching for the sweet spot between flexibility and complexity

The transition to zero emissions is not straightforward, yet we cannot wait for all the pieces of the puzzle to be firmly in place. The possibility to use multiple types of fuels is therefore essential – but also drives cost and complexity. In this session, we try to find the sweet spot between flexibility and complexity.

Field trip! Learn how Norway’s largest supply base is becoming more sustainable.

We start with a 15 minute presentations in the conference venue before heading for the buses.

10 minutes from the conference venue, we find Fjord Base, Norway’s largest supply base. They are developing activities that focus on the energies of the future. We visit the base to learn more about their activities in hydrogen production (incl. LOHC), circular economy and offshore wind. Limited seats, sign up when registering for the conference. P.S: Florø was one of the five hubs Enova chose to support in the establishment of production plants for renewable hydrogen.

The first hydrogen-fuelled vessel is already afloat, but where and when and how will hydrogen and ammonia become available in scale? Studies suggest that 85% of the investments in alternative fuels will be required in production and infrastructure. Through conversation with players from both sides, we will ask:

    • What are ports doing to offer climate neutral ammonia and H2 to ships?

    • What will the ports offer? All types of fuels, some types, and who decides which ones?

    • Are there synergies between production for land based industries and maritime?

    • If industry cannot pay the price of climate neutral fuels, can shipping?

    • How can a shipowner build a vessel for a fuel that is almost non-existent today?

    • Will NH3 and H2 ever become commodities or is long term contracts preferred?

    SESSION 2: MARINE ENERGY

The endless motion of water in the oceans is a vast store of energy. This energy can be harnessed and used to generate electricity needed for our zero-emission societies. Great innovations are happening in the oceans, learn about some of them here:
